“A Love Song” by Ann Privateer

prisongoya

Prison Interior by Francisco Goya cira 1973-1794

A Love Song

slide, strut, thud
empty halls reverberate

teenage boys
in lockup

jump suit
orange holds hands

behind, staring
past dogged brows

squelching
all impulse

to stab, to wound, to win
trade it in

for good behavior
and a coloring book.

Ann Privateer has had poetry featured in Manzanita, Poetry Now, Tapestries, Entering, and Tiger Eyes to name a few
