When no one is looking,
I gather their wishes,
spend them as my own
on the burn of amber –
the color of dawn
that once rose over a man
who cared to meet it.

Pushcart Prize and Kentucky Poet Laureate nominee,Sheri L. Wright is the author of six books of poetry, including the most recent, The Feast of Erasure.
